In 2009, Seattle trumpeter Mark Bentz had an idea. He would put together a band that could recreate the sound of "Whipped Cream"-era Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.
An octet of Alpert acolytes assembled, eager to put the plan into action: two trumpets, trombone, guitar, keys, bass, percussion, and drums. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Rat City Brass.
The band pays earnest homage to the suave yet playful music of the Tijuana Brass, taking audiences not only to the dancefloor of the 1960s, but to Herb Alpert's imaginary border-town cantina where classic American pop gets a stiff shot of tequila, loosens its collar, and decides that Saturday night starts right now.
Rat City Brass calls their music "mid-century instrumental pop." Your parents might call it "easy listening." Those who've witnessed RCB in action call it fun.
Please note: Tickets do not guarantee seating during shows at the Royal Room. For sold out shows standing room may be the only available space. Please come early to ensure you get a table. Reservations can be made for those who are coming for dinner as well as the show. The Royal Room is All Ages until 10pm.
