The Wake of Annie Grady
Dublin, Ireland – July 5, 1867. In the aftermath of the failed Fenian rising, habeas corpus has been suspended and rebels are on the run. Tension grips the city as a cholera outbreak claims hundreds of lives, while new science challenges the miasma theory, insisting poor sanitation—not foul air—spreads the deadly disease. Amid this turmoil, Annie Grady, a beloved teacher at Alexandra College, is pulled from the River Liffey. Authorities rule her death an accident, but whispers tell another story.
Within the grand rooms of Seattle’s historic Stimson Green Mansion, this site-specific world premiere from WhatNot Theatrics invites you to step inside the Grady household as a mourner at Annie’s wake. You’ll navigate a world steeped in Irish folklore and myth, where grief sharpens into suspicion, and every conversation may conceal a clue. Your presence matters—secrets will surface, stories will twist, and the truth will only be revealed if you’re willing to listen because when the living gather, the dead tell tales.
