Bill Evans stands as one of the most important jazz musicians in the post WWII generation, bringing innovations into both his piano playing and composing without making the move to the world of fusion and free jazz. Aside from his famous trio playing he had notable collaborations with players including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Art Farmer, Stan Getz, Oliver Nelson, George Russell, and many more. His trademarks include his impressionistic approach to harmony, his tight melodic playing, and his inclusion of devices from modern classical music.

The performers for Piano Starts Here: The Music of Bill Evans, include solo piano performances by Dave Peck, Randy Halberstadt, Nelda Swiggett and Joe Doria.

The Piano Starts Here series highlights the work of some of the most prolific and talented composers and pianists to have ever tackled the instrument. Each of the performances brings together Seattle’s finest pianists to perform the works of the artist selected for that evening on the Royal Room’s Steinway B grand piano.

Curated by Wayne Horvitz and Tim Kennedy. Hosted by Tim Kennedy.

The Royal Room is All Ages until 10 pm.

Please note: tickets do not guarantee a seat to shows at the Royal Room. For sold out shows standing room may be the only available space. Please come early to ensure you get a table. Reservations can be made for those who are coming for dinner as well as the show.
