Beyond the Basics: Consent for Men

Sat, Dec 1, 2018 from 1:30pm - 4:30pm

This event has passed.

There has been a lot in the news lately about consent, and about men who have violated the consent of others. It has impacted us and the people around us, sometimes in profound ways. It can be hard to know how to react and what to do in this changing landscape. We're going to spend some time and talk about it.

While consent is conceptually simple, it is complex in practice. It's about more than just a 'yes' or 'no'. It's about celebrating each other and creating safety for connection.

What we see in the media around sexual abuse and consent can be terrifying. The can be fear about doing the wrong thing. There can be confusion about what the right thing even is. This workshop will give skills and understanding for navigating intimacy in a way that is safe, passionate, and deeply honoring of all parties. Furthermore, this workshop will give tools for talking about this subject with friends, brothers, and colleagues and creating a more healthy culture for intimate connection.

Join a group of men who want to create a safer and more passionate world. This three hour workshop will look at how we can strive to include consensual practices in all parts of our lives, how we can be positive ambassadors and change-makers with other men, and how we talk about this complicated topic. Whether you're an old hand at consent or new to talking about it, we'll have something for you.

Anyone who self-identifies as male is welcome and encouraged to come.

No late entry will be allowed due to the intimate nature of this workshop. Doors will be locked at 10 minutes after the start time.
Open to all 18+
Attendance is limited to 30 people.

About the Educators:

The Consent Academy is a group of dedicated educators and activists who provide quality consent training and consultations. We have come together to promote Consent Culture through education, speaking out, and supporting organizations that want to do better. We talk a lot about consent and consensual activity. It’s the cornerstone of what we teach and who we are. And while that is easy to say, we know that living a dedication to consent takes work, awareness, and a willingness to engage.
